Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis
is a particular reaction to a particular substance (antigen) in which histamine
is released from tissues and causes either local (itching, hives, swelling of
the throat, constriction of the bronchioles, etc.) or widespread symptoms (lower
blood pressure, unconsciousness, etc.). Symptoms usually appear rapidly,
sometimes within minutes, and can be life threatening. Medical
first aid is needed. An injection of adrenaline can save the life.
